Lockheed Martin has received a $180 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to procure parts, materials and components to support the conversion of three F-35 production aircraft to flight science replacement planes.
Scope of Contract Action
The Department of Defense said Monday the new flight science aircraft will help avert any rise in the test capability gap and enable future flight science testing of Block 4 capabilities in support of U.S. military branches, non-DOD program partners and foreign military sales customers.
Work will occur in Texas, California, Florida, Maryland, New Hampshire, Denmark and the U.K. through December 2028.
Naval Air Systems Command will obligate funds using fiscal 2025 research, development, test and evaluation funds of the Air Force and the Navy and non-U.S. DOD program partner funds.
Previously Awarded Contract
The Navy made the contract action through a $1 billion contract awarded to Lockheed in December 2022.
Under the undefinitized advanced acquisition contract, the company will supply materials and services for 118 units of Lot 18 F-35 aircraft for the U.S. armed forces and allies.
In January 2023, Lockheed also booked a $320 million contract modification to provide non-recurring engineering services to support the production of new F-35 flight science test aircraft.
