Neal Dunn’s Bill and What It Means for Veteran Owned Businesses

A new bill proposed by U.S. Rep Neal Dunn of Florida has just been passed, called the “Ensuring Veteran Enterprise Participation in Strategic Sourcing Act”. This will cause the Veteran Affairs (VA) and General Services Administration (GSA) to send more federal contracts to small businesses owned by veterans (VOSB). This is a solution to a previous bill that was causing well qualified veteran owned small businesses to be passed over, called the “Veterans Benefits, Health Care, and Information Technology Act” which was passed back in 2006. In the past, Dunn made it known that changes needed to be made.

Neal Dunn said that in 2006 Congress gave veteran and service disabled veteran owned small business (VOSB) the highest preference to compete for VA contracts. The main problem was that the GSA was not connecting the VA with enough small businesses owned by veterans and service-disabled veterans (SDVOSB). Dunn strongly believes in taking care of our nations veterans. Dunn expressed that we need to hold the VA accountable to the veterans it serves because it is the right thing to do.

Jimmy Panetta, who is a U.S. Rep for California and former vet, strongly believes that congress should give every opportunity possible for veterans to thrive after they’ve served. This new bill will ensure that the VA continues to invest in the nations veteran and service disabled owned small businesses. U.S. rep from Tennessee, Phil Roe, also took a part in this new bill by bringing it through the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee which he chairs.
